Industrial Live Inc. recently converted our store from the Volusion to Magento platforms. Prior to the switch, our site had nearly 200,000 product and category pages indexed by Google with excellent SEO results. During our Magento setup time period, Google indexed 18,000 pages of our test site through our test url (industry.nexcess.net) without any robots.txt or sitemap files. This is before we even went live with the site! Once live, we created a robots.txt file and installed a Magento extension called “SEO Suite Pro Magento” by Mageworx to create multiple sitemaps to accommodate Google's 70k limit per map. We had hoped Google would quickly index our 200,000 new product pages and un-index the 200,000 old url's from our old Volusion site. They have not. For one month now Google has downloaded our sitemaps almost daily as we can clearly see in Google's webmaster tools. However, Google has only indexed 1 or 2 pages per day. We now have only 63 out of 200,000 pages properly indexed according to Google Webmaster tools. We still have tens of thousands of old Volution urls still indexed on Google. Your job is to insure we have a proper robots.txt file configured which stops Google from indexing pages such as carts, compares, send to a friend, etc. and encourages Google to index ALL of our product and category pages quickly. You must also insure our sitemaps are properly configured. You will also use your expertise to determine why Google downloads our sitemaps but only indexes a few pages per day. You will be paid in full when Google has indexed at least 150,000 pages as reported by our webmaster tools account. |
