| Description: |
We are a small web design firm. We have completed several magento sites and have been recently hired to upgrade a site (currently version 1.3.2.3.) to the current version and then install a gift certificate module. We are looking for assistance ASAP. Two weeks ago we started to do the upgrade but failed. We were able to restore the site to its original version and everything seemed fine. This is what happened: We created a Dev environment and cloned the original database to use with the clone. We then changed all the documented references to the root domain to the new one. We had two copies of the store under .com and .com/uat. Both were working and had the same data - order history, products etc. So far so good - we only had the file number warning. We then proceeded with upgrading the clone to 1.4 so then we could resolve any theme issues one by one by looking at the original site and the upgraded one. To do this we used the clone's Magento Connect updater. For some reason it overwrote not only the UAT files but the original system's files as well which was not supposed to happen. We should have done command-line in hindsight Our guess to why the project failed was Magento was not initialized for the new location - in webroot of new site something like " ./pear mage-setup . " After restoring everything seemed ok and the store received successful orders through Sept 4. We set up another staging server with plans to try the upgrade again separately but did not yet start. On Sept 4 sometime after the last successful order the owner added a few products and a category. Suddenly, users who added products to cart starting receiving error submission forms when they tried to add to cart. We are not sure if this was related to the failed upgrade -- only manifesting itself by him using a particular functionality, or something else. We were able to restore the site to Sept 2 version but the problem still existed. Then it changed from the error reporting form problems to losing session after 30-60 seconds. Post shipping address, Magento appears to lose the session and goes to the Shopping Cart page claiming no items are in the cart. On the backend, the session is lost quite easily, too and a user is often kicked out after doing something. The site is currently version 1.3.2.3. We need to get it to the most current version. Obviously this process has been stalled due these newer issues. We need someone to help us save face – and fast – the site hasn't been functional in a week. If it is easier to set up a fresh install on the staging server and then move the design files and database then we would be ok with that, but obviously keeping everything would be ideal. Can you help? Please send an estimate of hours. We would like someone to start on this project asap. Ideally we would prefer: -- One developer throughout the project. -- You should be professional, good with deadlines and have excellent communication skills. We need lots of progress updates. Please include your hourly rate. If you are interested in this project we would he happy to let you take a look at the backend. Thanks! |
